“Carl’s picture is fantastic; I wish I had one of my last dog, Mittens, that would be a great memory.”
Why do you include a print in the package rather than just providing the files to print on our own?
First, because there is a lot that goes into setting up the image files for museum quality printing. We will spare you all the talk about white balance, exposure, noise reduction, sharpening, etc. We set up the files to match and optimize the printing process we use. And that printing process optimizes both the look and durability of the artwork.
Can I really have the photo files as well as the print?
Yes. Unlike most portrait businesses, where the you have to pay for every print and don’t get the files, we are happy for you to have and use them. They will be especially great for emailing images to your mom, or putting on your home screen or maybe you might want to make a t-shirt.
Note (not to get too technical here) we shoot in RAW format in order to get the highest quality. We will typically send you JPEG files instead of RAW since those are easy to work with (and take a lot less room on your hard drive). Should you want the RAW files we are glad to send them, just ask.
What paper do you use?
Our basic package is printed on Moab Entrada, an archival paper for beautiful long-lasting prints. This 100% cotton material is slightly textured has a smooth fine art surface, resulting in exceptional color reproduction
Can we get canvas prints?
We are happy to work out just about anything you want. If you prefer canvas, that’s easy. Hey, we have fun with our four-legged clients; we are open to all kinds of ideas.
Any recommendations on portrait care?
Hang in a location outside of direct sunlight, although the high-quality fine art printing process we use can theoretically last up to 100 years even in direct sunlight (but who has the time to test that one out?).
What is you retouching philosophy?
Our basic philosophy is to provide a realistic portrait of your best friend. (If you want to have something unusual, we are all ears.) Given that we are dealing with pets there is inevitably stray hair, slobber, dirt on the backdrop or whatever. We like to retouch those things so the pet looks their best. These are artistically large prints so those things would be obvious compared to what you see in snapshots.
What if I fall in love with more than one image?
If you want to make more than one large art print then let’s do it. The cost will be less since the shooting is done.
